Stoneham operates a fleet of 19 drilling rigs that range in age from brand new to seven years old.

Telescopic Doubles (12 Rigs)

Our original six drilling rigs, commissioned in 2000 and 2001, are modern step-down telescopic double drilling rigs, configured to handle two joints of 30-foot drill pipe at one time. This makes them suitable for medium-deep drilling (from measured depths of 2,000 to 4,000 metres), and each of Rigs 1 through 6 has a rated capacity of 3,000 metres. Incorporating advances in technology, Rigs 9, 12, 14, 15, 19, and 20 are essentially identical to Rigs 1 through 6 but have rated depth capacities of 3,500 metres and are equipped with 5,000 pound blow-out prevention equipment rated for "critical sour" service.

All of our telescopic doubles have unitized substructures and feature a single skid mast and drawworks combination. This enables the rigs to be moved and prepared for drilling operations in four to eight hours, while many of our competitors' rigs rig up or down in eight to 18 hours. Our rigs are able to move in as few as 10 loads without drill pipe, compared to older style rigs with a similar depth capacity, which move in 15 to 36 loads.

Telescopic Triples (4 Rigs)

Our telescopic triples, Rigs 7, 8, 10, and 11, share substantial similarities with our doubles. They are configured to handle two joints of 45-foot (Range III) drill pipe or three joints of 30-foot (Range II) drill pipe at one time. The ability to utilize 45-foot joints effectively eliminates one-third of the connection time required utilizing 30-foot joints. All of our triples feature 1,200 horsepower drawworks, 500,000 pound hook loads (the amount of weight that can be lifted by the rig), and twin 1,600 horsepower mud pumps and are equipped with 5,000 pound blow-out prevention equipment rated for "critical sour" service. These features make these rigs ideally suited for medium-deep drilling (from measured depths of 3,500 to 5,000 metres) and each rig has a rated depth capacity of 4,500 metres.

Our telescopic triples can move and prepare for drilling operations in approximately 8 to 12 hours and move in as few as 19 loads without drill pipe, compared to older triple rigs that move in approximately 35 loads. These characteristics, in addition to a tighter footprint, result in substantial cost savings for our customers. These rigs allow us to compete more effectively in a broader range of the western Canadian drilling market, particularly as the average well depth drilled in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin increases each year.

AC Triples (3 Rigs)

Rigs 16, 17 and 18, our AC triples, are our deepest capacity rigs. Recently deployed, these new drilling rigs feature TSM 1500 AC electric drive drawworks (1,500 horsepower) and have rated hook loads of 650,000 pounds. Maintaining design consistency, these rigs incorporate technology advancements and share many similarities in rig components with our telescopic triples and similarly employ Range III, 45-foot joint drill pipe. The major differences are in the variable height self elevating, slingshot substructure, cantilever/jackknife style of triple derrick, and AC electric drives.

Our AC triples rig up or down in two to three days and move locations in 39 loads without drill pipe compared to older-style triple drilling rigs with similar capacity that move in 65 loads.

Rigs 17 and 18 were deployed to the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma during the first quarter of 2008.
