Stoneham Sponsors Olympian Jeff Christie
Posted July 16, 2009. When Stoneham President and CEO Bruce Jones heard that a
local Olympian was going to lose a corporate sponsor, he jumped at the chance
to be a part of Jeff Christie's bid for an Olympic medal.
Born in Vancouver in 1983,
Jeff Christie first tried luge at a summer camp in Calgary and started training and competing at
age 12. Jeff began competing nationally in the 1997-1998 season, and was an
alternate on the Canadian team for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. In 2006, Jeff finished 14th
overall at the Turin Olympics.
Jeff is currently training for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and has hopes
for a podium finish. Stoneham Drilling is thrilled to be part of this Olympic
dream!
When he is not training, Jeff is studying at the Haskayne
School of Business, University
of Calgary. To learn more

Rig Manager Spring MeetingMay 24-26, 2009. Themed Discipline, Diligence, and Destiny, the spring session highlighted recent successes and areas for improvement. Guest speaker Trevor Chambers' presentation on The Consequences of our Actions was one of the highlights. Trevor warned of the lasting effects of a split second decision and how a "good time" doesn't necessarily always end as such. Although Trevor's accident did not occur on a Stoneham rig, his experience does reflect the substance abuse problems faced by the drilling industry as a whole. Trevor was a motor man on a drilling rig whose life was changed forever in 1993 due to an unfortunate drinking and driving accident with his rig crew. The accident left him with no memories of his previous 28 years and numerous physical disabilities; it took years of rehabilitation to regain some normalcy in his daily routines. In sharing his struggles with Stoneham, Trevor's presentation brought to life the reality of consequences and how much one stands to lose through poor decision-making.
Safety Awards In April 2009, at the annual CAODC Safety Awards Banquet, Stoneham was honoured with a number of safety awards. In all, six 6 Rig Managers, 26 Drillers, and nine Rigs received Industry recognition.
Presented May 2009 at Spring Session. In 2008, Rig 17 moved into the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma, USA, establishing a world class operation with one year Total Recordable Incident Free.
Congratulations to all.
Keith Gould (L), receives Stoneham safety award on behalf of Rig 17 from Bill George (R), Health, Safety &
Environment Manager.
